Any truth to this subject? In many cases, yes! Company recruiters and managers will hire people that they know or know someone that highly recommended the individual faster than you can ask, "are you hiring!"

No one likes to admit it, but it's true! That's why NETWORKING is highly recommended, especially if you find yourself at home looking through the want ads or constantly searching the internet for a job! It's time to meet people and tap into the friends, family, associates that you do know!

What's a good way to network? There's no proven method other than this - meet people, talk to people and leave an impression on people.

1 - MEET PEOPLE

Go to a place where you can meet people that can assist you in finding a job or may have a contact that can help you. You go to places like a job fair, conventions, parties, trade shows, etc and connect with people with like skills, backgrounds, etc.

2 - TALK TO PEOPLE

It's been proven that we're not mind readers. You must sell yourself to people. Let people know that you are unemployed or looking for a career change and let the conversion flow. Script a 30 second commercail about yourself and let 'er rip. Sell yourself but don't over do it. If the person you're talking gives you the impression that they can't help you, move on to the next. There's no time to be shy here.


3 - LEAVE AN IMPRESSION.

Okay, you've met, you've talk, now leave an impression...a good impression. You know the old saying, "a first impression is an everlasting impression." Good impressions are formed by the way you talk, dress and conduct yourself will speaking (body language and odor if I may add). You want to be and look your best, nothing less. Anything less you will get the "don't call me, I'll call you" vibe from the person you're talking too. It's nice if you have a business card or resume with you info on it so the person can contact you, verse the "do you have a pen, let me write down...". Be prepared and make it easy for everyone involved, especially the person you're networking with. Again, it leaves a good impression and you may have just stepped one foot in the door of employment. cheers
